Private Prescription Service

Prescription delivery service to your home, workplace, relatives home or any other location in the UK

Process Overview

Should a doctor wish to raise a prescription following a consultation, they can select the Prescription option within the patient management software. Each GMC registered doctor has their own unique username and password to log in and follows the process to raise and authorise the prescription.

Should a patient have had a previous prescription raised by another doctor, this will show on the system so the doctor can ensure it is appropriate to raise a second prescription. The process requires the doctor to raise the prescription then make a second check before authorising it with a digital signature.

Once submitted, the prescription is received by the dispensing company, Pharmacy2U for checking, processing and dispatch.

Prescriptions can be raised for one-off occasions such as prescription-only painkillers/anti- inflammatory drugs, digestive medication, NHS prescription medication where the patient is away from home and has forgotten/has insufficient prescription medication, antibiotics, and hormonal medication e.g. temporary management of menstrual cycle. Prescriptions cannot be issued for controlled drugs.

Doctors Prescription System

All GP’s are experienced practicing medical professionals who have received training on the electronic prescription system; they will use their judgment following a telephone consultation, which takes account of medical history, allergies, current medication and presented symptoms.

As in their NHS role, they will adhere to the GMC guidelines on prescribing following a telephone consultation.

Guidelines on Prescribing

The system has dropdown menus for allowing standard amounts and dosages of non- controlled medication to be prescribed, authorised by a digital signature from a GMC registered doctor.

The GP raises the prescription then must make a second check prior to authorisation. A qualified pharmacist then checks it during and prior to the dispatch process for necessary safeguards – safer and more efficient than paper based prescribing.

The Doctors take a full history of the patient, including any current medication and dosages, allergies, etc. This detail remains on the system, including data relating to any medication prescribed by the doctor so in future consultations the doctor can see previous prescribing history.

There is no incentive for doctors to prescribe; they will only do so if they feel it is in the clinical interest of the patient and they are confident the patient has accurately described their symptoms and medical history. If the doctor is in any doubt, they will not raise a prescription.

As with all consultations, the call is recorded for audit and training purposes.

Pharmacy2U handle all aspects of payment. On receipt of a prescription, they will contact the patient by phone to take debit/credit card details for payment. The pharmacist will check the prescription before it is dispatched by the chosen method.

The operations team will check the Pharmacy2U status reports daily and where prescriptions have been sent out, forward the consultation notes to the patient’s NHS GP to enable the patient’s NHS record to be kept up to date.
